WW2 Nissen Hut and Upottery Airfield Heritage Centre
Re-Opening Friday April 7th - updated 07-04-2023 This Heritage Centre was opened in 2012 and has recently been refurbished to create a representation of what this type of building would have looked like in the second world war. It contains a unique photographic record of what took place at Upottery Airfield during the period from April 1944 to October 1944 and documents the major role that the Upottery Airfield played in the Normandy invasion during the night of 5th June 1944, D day itself and the days afterwards; as well as the role it it played in operation Market Garden, Arnhem.

Admission is Free, however we rely on donations for our work and would hope you would make a donation on leaving.

Honiton: jnct A30/A35 to Dunkeswell, follow signs to Smeatharpe, past airfield into village and R after farm shop, down Slough Lane.
Taunton: Honiton Rd, Blagdon Hill, past culmhead business park, R at fork to Smeatharpe, L into Slough Lane

Food - the Sidmouth Arms is a short trip away.
We open from Good Friday to the end of September 11am - 4pm
We then operate reduced hours in October - Saturdays and Sundays 11am - 4pm
We will also open outside these times for group talks and tours; please email us for information and charges
Our historians can give talks on various airfields and their role in WW2, as well as other aspects of military life and operations, at your venue, or ours - again please email for details
